I drink this tea when I have a head cold. Something in it, maybe the lemon flavor, cloves and cinnamon mixture reduces the mucus buildup in the throat and seems to temporarily quiet coughing. It's great to drink anytime. Great for non-coffee drinkers when you want something hot to drink.

I add a teaspoon of ginger, that really open you up when you have a cold.

I have been drinking this tea since 1967. The original version uses lemon tea and no powdered lemonade.
I add honey and lemon juice when sick, it's very helpful.
You can also leave out the sugar and sweeten with honey, agave, nusteva, Equal, or alike in each cup depending on personal preference. Endless winter enjoyment and a lifetime of tradition!
Enjoy!

Now that our evenings are getting a little cooler, this is a great warm-me up drink with little caffeine. Sometimes I add a cinnamon stick for fun. Tastes great....

I've been making this for more than 30 years WITHOUT the 1 1/2 cup added sugar. The Tang has plenty of sugar in it, and so does the powdered lemonade mix -- read the ingredient labels. Mix all ingredients in the same proportions as the recipe, add some cinnamon, and it's a better drink, lower in sugar and stronger in flavor. You don't need all that added sugar, believe me.

I have been making this spiced tea for 30 years, we never put sugar in it and I have always put the cinnamon red hots in it also... love this stuff.

Rita from Texas, YES!!! I'm so glad I stumbled on this site. I've made this for years and misplaced my recipe. I was pretty sure I knew it from heart, but wanted to verify. As I was looking I noticed numerous variations but they all added sugar. I NEVER added sugar; it was plenty sweet as is. Thank you for pointing this out. I'm so glad I ran across your comment. I knew it was equal portions too, but, I was beginning to second guess myself when I didn't see a recipe like the one you and I have used before. I never measured, just dumped, ha. Thanks again!
