1/2 c. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond or lemon extract

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs; mix well. Add dry ingredients and flavorings; mix well. Roll out; cut in shape of valentines. Sprinkle with red sugar. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Make pink sugar icing; fit 2 cookies together with icing.
