BUFFALO WING SAUCES
The following ingredients will make you all the Buffalo Wing Sauces you'll ever need!

FRANK'S® Red Hot Sauce
FRANK'S® Xtra hot Sauce
white vinegar
butter
garlic powder
Dave's Insanity sauce

Here are a variety of Buffalo and Hot Wing Recipes to suit your needs. Vinegar can be added to any of these recipes if you are a vinegar lover, but it is not needed if you don't care for it. All recipes call for butter and of course it must be melted. All recipes involve mixing all ingredients together to a smooth consistency.

MILD/MEDIUM WINGS:

1/3 cup FRANK'S® Red Hot Sauce
1/3 cup butter
1-2 tbsp. vinegar (optional)

HOT WINGS:

1/3 cup FRANK'S® Xtra Hot Sauce
1/4 cup butter (optional)
1-2 tbsp. vinegar (optional)

REALLY HOT WINGS:

1/3 cup FRANK'S® Xtra Hot Sauce
1/4 cup butter
1/2 to 1 tsp. Dave's Insanity Sauce
1-2 tbsp. vinegar (optional)

For Garlic Wings, add 1 teaspoon of garlic powder to any of the above recipes.

To make the wings, deep fry them until golden brown and slightly crispy. Put the sauce into a Tupperware container or freezer bag. Add the wings, and shake them in the sauce. Remove them and eat! You can use any typical blue cheese or Ranch dressing to dip the wings in.

AVOID using sauces such as Tabasco. These are not Buffalo Wings with Tabasco, but Tabasco really makes the wings unpleasant to eat. Use FRANK'S®, it's the original wing sauce and the best for flavor out there for Buffalo Wings. In a pinch, you can substitute Louisiana Hot Sauce or Texas Pete's or any other brand tomato-pepper based hot sauce, but once again, AVOID Tabasco!

Why avoid Tabasco? (it makes wings unpleasant)? Isn't Franks red hot buffalo sauce already? This makes no sense to me. People want to make their OWN buffalo sauce. Do you work for Franks?!

 Guitarahan (New York) replies:
"What the hell is Franks, do you work for Frank's" - sheesh, somebody went to a lot of trouble to make a good recipe available for you, and anyone who does so deserves to be treated with respect!

Frank's happens to be the only name-brand of a specific red-pepper-sauce formula which is available in the States surrounding Buffalo, NY. That is why we specify it as Frank's, to distinguish it from the other styles (not taco sauce and not Tabasco), although "red sauce" would be better understood for the rest of the world. Although The Wing Master may have done better to consider this, explaining that the difference is made by the cayenne pepper sauce, you could have googled it up yourself for the time you spent leaving rude comments. Here it is: Tabasco Sauce, and here it is on Frank's Red Hot

Bob, no it says reds hot sauce which is actually different from reds hot buffalo sauce so it makes perfect sense.

Very good pretty simple to make

Tabasco is not for wings. Frank's is great!!!

 Steve (Australia) replies:
Sorry, what the hell is Franks sauce? Unfortunately, I am trying to replicate buffalo wings as I miss them a lot. Franks sauce isn't available world-wide, but Tabasco is. Juniors in Brooklyn uses Tabasco in their original recipe, so I am with Bob here.

 Tim (California) replies:
Franks Red Hot is a hot sauce that was used in the original wing sauce. Franks Hot Sauce is not Buffalo wing sauce unless you buy the Franks Buffalo Wing sauce.

I agree with Steve. I live in Chile. If you publish recipes on the WorldWideWeb.Please ensure we have the full ingredients. Franks sauces (Unknown Here) can be offered as an alternative.

 Zac (Florida) replies:
Franks Red Hot is a Cayenne pepper sauce. Cayenne pepper sauces are the base to most "Buffalo Wing" sauces. And the reason he says don't use Tabasco is not because he works for Franks, its cause Tabasco based wing sauces are disgusting.

Also I'd like to add that if you just mix these ingredients the sauce will be very thin and won't stick to the wings. Simmer the sauce over low heat to a thickness of your liking, which will also help wings hold onto the sauce.

 Daniel Parsons (Alberta) replies:
Use some common sense. Obviously if Frank's is unavailable then don't use it. Don't use a veal cutlet recipe in a town where you can't buy veal.

The reason the author says don't use Tabasco is because Tabasco is very vinegary and to most people has a very strong, sudden taste. Frank's has more depth and is generally well suited to using a chicken wing sauce.

If you love Tabasco then by all means use it but the author doesn't and advises against its use, as do I.

 Joshua (Missouri) replies:
Franks honestly is better for hot wings but for some people not readily available. If you can't get franks than find something that works for you whether its Tabasco sauce or something else. If I have a choice I'll use franks or find something else to my liking. Great recipe though

 Martha Viewart (United States) replies:
For those overseas clueless as to what alternatives to try, you are already online, so Google, Amazon, or ebay an order of Franks or some Franks alternatives.

Tabasco is not meant to be a base, as mentioned before if it floats your boat its usually used as an accent. To each his own... but this particular recipe is just not formulated for a :/ Tabasco base... I will try adding the Sri3acha sauce. I also like to add Lime, & Franks had a Lime accented sauce.. idk if they still make it. My 1st Love was a Frank *:)

 Brad (Pennsylvania) replies:
Franks is a cayenne hot sauce. You still have to add butter to the sauce to make buffalo sauce. Any cayenne pepper sauce will do.

I'm from Northern Ireland. Where can I buy Frank's sauce??

To those that live in area's and are unable to find Frank's Hot Sauce ~ ask your grocer to order this. They have a list of items you will NEVER see on the shelves - unless you ask for it. They are always willing to try new items.

 Caleb (Indiana) replies:
To end all of the confusion - Franks Red Hot is available all over. All Franks is is a red cayenne pepper sauce available by many names- Franks Red Hot, Texas Pete's, Louisiana Hot Sauce and any store brand red cayenne pepper sauce. Franks happens to be the most popular and arguably the best, yet is overrated as any of the other sauces will do if you know how to add what little they lack. Tabasco has more heat than flavor and does not add the tangy-ness that is required of a really good wing sauce, but it IS a great addition to your wing sauce if you like them a little hotter.

 Sherrie (Trinidad and Tobago) replies:
We in the Caribbean don't have Frank's hot sauce but I have made my own sauce using ketchup, BBQ sauce, garlic, cilantro vinegar and our morugua scorpion tail hot peppers, just a pinch, and it was wonderlishus.. So friends make your own and make it your special recipe...

 Paula (Ontario) says:
There is a huge difference in TASTE and HEAT re Franks Red Hot & Tabasco. Franks adds FLAVOR, not just heat, and no self respecting bar in Buffalo, NY, where I hail from, would use anything but Franks, Butter, and a bit of vinegar or garlic to make it their own. Medium hot wings sell the best, and if you want really, really hot wings and don't care about taste, just drench them with Tabasco and forget the rest.

 Sarah (Virginia) says:
Ok. Before I found out that Frank's is what gives you the classic Buffalo wings flavor (I had never heard of it before), I tried Tabasco. Was as good as Frank's? No. Was it better than no hot wings at all? Of course it was. I have to agree that I would still avoid it if you had other choices, or maybe limit it to a small amount of your blend if you want more heat and pungency. But you know, if you want hot wings and you don't have Frank's where you live, just experiment with what you do have until you find something you like.

For a real flavorful kick substitute or add some Thai Sriracha suce to the mix. For killer hot add some habanero to it.

 Nostromo (Louisiana) says:
The reason Tabasco brand sauce makes things taste unpleasant is that it is made from (obviously) Tabasco peppers, which have a bitter, unpleasant taste that I've yet to find complimentary to anything. Crystal hot sauce, which is made from cayenne peppers, is vastly superior; it has a nice flavour and a mild bite that shouldn't be too hot for anyone's palette.
I have a huge container of Frank's Xtra Hot Sauce that my stepfather gave me that is lasting forever. It makes a good base for various sauces, but I find that combining it with certain things (for example peanut butter in a Thai sauce) completely kills the heat of Frank's.

Have never had Frank's, but here in Georgia Moores wing sauce is off the chain.

 Uncle Frankie (Ohio) says:
I agree. I love Tabasco! HOWEVER, FRANK'S is the shiz when it comes to the original buffalo wing sauce's flavor. Any one of the other vinegar based hot sauces will do in a pinch, but the tabasco brand just does not sit well on the flavor pallet. If ya have to use it, be free...DO IT! But,if you want the original sauce and flavor, use Frank's.

 Winguru (Indiana) replies:
I agree that Frank's is the bomb, I leave out the butter and mix the Frank's with ranch or blue cheese dressing. My kids love it and it really thickens up the sauce. If your gonna dip your wings in ranch anyway, why not avoid the calories of the butter?

 Moonglo (Florida) says:
I like Hooter's wing sauce but it is a little pricey... I'm gonna give Frank's a try.

 Talbot (Oklahoma) says:
Tabasco has a unique, complex, sweet undertone to it. This is a polite way of saying it tastes vile. It's also nontraditional and wings made with it would be "hot wings", not buffalo wings. Frank's is recommended because is was used in the original buffalo sauce. I use Louisiana hot sauce and I'm quite satisfied with it, but purists will always back Frank's above all else.

Chili enthusiasts are the same way about whether tomatoes and beans are acceptable(they are). It's a struggle that will never end, I suppose.

 Lynn behler (Pennsylvania) says:
Tabasco sauce is made from a different type of pepper than Red Hot also it is made to be dispensed a few drops at a time. The recipe calls for 1/3 cup Red Hot in which the wings will be drenched. If you used that much Tabasco it would kill you. You're looking for Red Hot "Franks original recipe" and if you want em' right this is the only one.

 TWil2 (Louisiana) says:
I don't find Tabasco to be hot. Ya'll are wimps. When I use it, I just leave out the vinegar since it's in the Tabasco sauce already.
 #57381
 Jmacjem71 (Idaho) says:
The best for Buffalo sauce is to use a Louisiana style hot sauce (Chrystal is a popular brand). I use the store brands, just as good. The butter is used to reduce heat. The less you use the hotter the wings. I use a 12 oz. bottle of hot sauce to one stick of butter. I add a little cornstarch and water mixture to the sauce, it makes it thicker and it sticks on your wings better. Try adding a little brown sugar for sweet and spicy - my kids love it this way.

 Chip (United States) says:
My dad once made hot wings with Tabasco sauce when I was about ten years old... for the next ten years I thought I hated hot wings. Then I had some wings with Frank's and butter and I had a revelation. Tabasco is not for wings.
