8 c. peeled, cored and sliced cooking apples (about 9 med.)
1/4 c sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. lemon juice
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. water or less if apples are juice

Place apples in a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan. In a small mixing bowl, stir together sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir the sugar mixture into the apples. Sprinkle with lemon juice. Dot with butter. Pour water over all. Bake covered in a 3509 degree oven for 30 minutes or until apples are tender. Leftover apples may be served cold, if desired.
