AUNT MARIE'S SOAP RECIPE | |
5 lbs. melted lard, cooled 5 1/2 qts. water 1 can lye 1 pt. Clorox 2 tbsp. sassafras oil (opt. for fragrance) Put water in 5 gallon stone jar and add lye (note caution on can). Stir with wooden spoon until dissolved. Slowly add melted lard and continue stirring. Add Clorox and sassafras oil. Stir when handy 3 or 4 times a day for 5 days. On the 6th day put in enameled dishpan and melt on stove, stirring occasionally until melted. When melted, pour into dampened cloth lined cardboard box and let harden. The following day cut in pieces. |
