SHIPS' BISCUITS | |
These are served as refreshments for the annual Kindergarten Columbus Day play. The longer these biscuits are folded and beaten the better the results, so let the children have a fling with these. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix: 2 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. shortening or oil worked in with fingertips Stir in to make very stiff dough, approximately 1/2 cup water. Beat the dough to a 1/2 inch thickness with a mallet or your fists. Fold it into 6 layers. Beat it thin again. Repeat 5 or 6 times until the dough is very elastic. Roll it to 1/2 inch again and cut into biscuits with floured cutter. Bake about 30 minutes until slightly brown on the bottom. Store tightly covered. Makes about 24 (1 1/2 inch biscuits). |
