QUICK BEER BREAD 
3 c. unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. light brown sugar
1 (12 oz.) can beer at room temperature

Mix flour, baking powder, soda, salt and brown sugar in large bowl. Add half the beer and mix for about 1 minute. Add remaining beer and mix until just combined.

Transfer the batter to a well-greased 7-inch loaf pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat 1 egg with 1/2 teaspoon salt to make a glaze. Glaze the bread. Turn bread out on wire rack after baking 45 minutes. Let it rest 10 minutes. Serve it warm with sweet butter. Good with stews and chicken fricassees.
