QUAKER FRUIT AND OAT BARS 
2 c. Quaker oats, quick or old-fashioned, uncooked
1 c. flour
3/4 c. butter, melted
1/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/3 c. chopped nuts
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 (10 or 12 oz.) jar fruit preserves

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 11 x 7 inch baking dish. Combine all ingredients except preserves. Mix well; reserve 3/4 cup of mixture. Press remaining mixture into dish and bake 10 minutes.

Spread preserves over partially cooked base to within 1/2 inch of edge. Sprinkle with reserved oats. Bake 20 to 22 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and cut into bars. Store in tightly covered box at room temperature.
