OATMEAL HARDTACK 
1 c. quick oatmeal
3/8 c. butter
1/4 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. white flour
1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk

Chill 2 hours or overnight.

Work the butter into the dry ingredients as for pie crust. Add milk and soda. Roll thin; cut into squares (roll 1/8 inch thick). Bake at 350 degrees for 10- 12 minutes until crisp around edges. Remove at once from cookie sheet and cool.
