1/2 lb. butter
2 c. sugar
4 c. self-rising flour
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tsp. vanilla or lemon flavor
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Mix butter and sugar until soft and creamy. Add flour, a little at a time. alternate with a little milk until it forms a soft batter. Add flavor and mix a little more. Pour into greased pans.
Bake muffins about 25 minutes; cake layers 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
Makes 3 to 4 layers or 1 large plain cake or cupcakes.
