STEAM DATE PUDDING 
1 c. dark brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream sugar, salt, and butter. Eggs into creamed mixture. Add lemon rind. Measure flour mixture together. Add to creamed mixture. Add dates and nuts. Turn into greased 1 1/2 quart mold.

Cover tightly with foil, tie with string. Steam about 3 1/2 hours. Unmold, serve warm with hard sauce. Serves 8-10.
