1/2 c. soft butter
1/3 c. white sugar
1/3 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. flour, unsifted
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. quick cookie oatmeal, dry
1/2 c. chocolate chips

Combine butter with white and brown sugars in a medium or large mixing bowl. Beat well until fluffy. Scrape sides of bowl often. Add eggs and vanilla; beat again until light and fluffy. Scrape sides of bowl often. Blend or sift flour, spices, salt and baking powder until well mixed. Add about one-half of flour mixture to bowl with butter and sugar. Beat well. Add second half of flour mixture and beat again until well mixed. Stir in oatmeal and half of the chocolate chips.

Spread evenly in an ungreased 9 inch square pan. Sprinkle remaining chips on top. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until browned and the bars have pulled away a little from the sides of the pan. Cool. Makes 16 bars. One bar = 138 calories.
