GRANDMOTHER'S 3 LAYER ORANGE CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/4 lb. butter
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. plain flour
3 level tsp. baking powder
Juice of 2 navel oranges
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs one at a time. In separate bowl, sift flour and baking powder together. Put orange juice in measuring cup and add water until it makes 1 cup. Add vanilla to this mixture. Alternately add flour mixture and orange juice/water mixture to butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Pour into 3 greased and floured 8 inch cake pans. Bake 20-25 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.

FROSTING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 lb. butter
3-4 tbsp. grated orange peel

Beat all ingredients until fluffy.
