Hoecake is named for the manner it was cooked - on a hoe above the coals of a dying fire. 2 tsp. salt Boiling water
Mix salt and meal; pour enough boiling water in to make it barely stick together. Make into patties and place in a greased skillet. Cook slowly. When brown, turn over to brown other side. May also be fried in patties on top of stove.
