COUNTRY FRIED GREEN TOMATOES 
6 med. green tomatoes, sliced
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 c. butter

Sprinkle tomato slices with sugar. Let stand 15 minutes. Combine flour, salt, and pepper and coat tomato slices. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in skillet. Brown tomatoes slowly on both sides. Remove each batch to oven proof platter and keep hot in oven. Add more butter when needed. If desired, add 1/2 cup cream to skillet, stirring into drippings. When hot, pour over tomatoes. Or serve plain.
