CRANBERRY DATE BREAD 
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
Juice and rind of 1 orange
2 tbsp. melted shortening
Water
1 well beaten egg
2 c. cranberries cut in halves
1/2 c. chopped dates

Sift all dry ingredients. Combine juice and rind, shortening and enough water to make 3/4 cup. Stir in the eggs. Pour in cranberries and nuts. Spoon into greased loaf pan, approximately 9x5x3 with batter higher at the corners than the center. Bake at 350 degrees 50 to 60 minutes. Store overnight before cutting.
