JULEKAKA (Christmas Bread) 
2 c. milk, scalded
1 c. shortening
2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. crushed cardamon seed
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1 c. white raisins
1 c. chopped citron
1 c. maraschino cherries, drained
1/2 c. blanched, chopped almonds
4 c. flour

Combine milk, shortening, sugar, salt and spices. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast softened in water and eggs; beat well. Add remaining flour and fruit; mix well. Grease top and let rise until double in bulk. Punch down. Knead lightly.

Form in two braids or round loaves. Let rise until double in bulk. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 45 minutes (until nicely browned). While warm, brush with butter.
