3/4 c. butter 1 c. brown sugar, packed 4 egg yolks 2 1/2 c. all purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 c. sour milk 1 tsp. soda 2 egg whites, beaten stiff 1 tsp. vanilla 2 egg whites 1 c. brown sugar, packed 1 c. ground walnuts Cream butter and 1 cup brown sugar thoroughly. Add egg yolks; beat well. Combine flour and baking powder and add, alternately, with mixture of sour milk and soda. Fold in 2 stiffly beaten egg whites and vanilla. Pour into greased 9 inch square pan. Beat remaining 2 egg whites until frothy. Gradually beat in remaining brown sugar until stiff. Spread over batter. Sprinkle with nuts. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes or until cake tests done. |
