1 c. chopped dates 1 tsp. soda 1 c. sugar 2 eggs, beaten 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 c. boiling water 2 c. chopped apples (Winesap) 1/2 c. butter 1 1/2-2 c. flour 1 c. chopped nuts 1 tsp. salt Pour boiling water over dates, let set. Add soda. Cream butter, sugar, and then add eggs. Beat well. Sift dry ingredients all together. Mix in date mixture. Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees. Pour hot buttermilk icing over hot cake.
