LANE CAKE
 

1 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
2 c. sugar
3 1/4 c. flour (sifted)
3/4 tsp. salt
8 egg whites

Sift together flour, salt and baking powder; set aside. In a large bowl beat the egg whites until soft peaks form; set these aside. In another bowl cream butter; gradually add 2 cups sugar and beat until fluffy. Stir in vanilla. To this mixture gradually add flour mixture alternately with the cup of milk, mixing well after each addition. Gently fold in the beaten egg whites. Divide batter evenly into 3 (9 inch) cake pans which have been greased and floured. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

LANE FROSTING:

12 egg yolks
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. bourbon
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 1/2 c. chopped raisins
1 1/2 c. shredded coconut
1 1/2 c. quartered candied green and red cherries
1 3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. butter
