APPLE DONUT MUFFINS
 

1 1/2 c. flour
1 3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 c. shortening or butter
1 beaten egg
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. chopped apples

TOPPING:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Combine first 4 dry ingredients, cut in 1/3 cup shortening. Add the egg, milk and apple and fold in gently. Grease muffin tins and fill 2/3 full. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.

Melt butter and blend 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon. While still warm, dip tops of muffins in butter and then sugar mixture. Cool on rack. Delicious.
