1 c. cornmeal
1 c. flour
3/4 c. milk
1 egg
1/3 c. sugar
1 tbsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 med. onion, grated

Mix all ingredients (add more milk if needed) but mixture must be stiff. Drop by tablespoons which has been dipped into hot fat (we use same oil in which fish has been fried). Fry in hot oil until golden brown. Hush puppies will turn themselves.
