ITALIAN DINNER

If you were invited to an Italian home for Sunday dinner the fare would be as follows:

Straciatello Soup (chicken broth with spinach and little meatballs), pasta (could have been handmade noodles, ravioli, gnochi, etc.), home made spaghetti sauce (which was always called Gravy), gravy meat (sausage, pork, beef, meatballs all cooked in spaghetti sauce), roast chicken, tossed salad.

This meal always took several hours to be served and eaten and Italian always ate their salad last as a means of refreshing the stomach after such a heavy meal.

Dessert was never served after a meal of this sort. Fresh fruit would have been served. Something sweet may have been served hours after the meal.

Also this meal would have been served in the early afternoon any time after 12 noon. Usually around 1 p.m.
