Cream together:

1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg

Sift together and sift into butter mix:

2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves and allspice
1 1/2 c. warm applesauce
1 tsp. baking powder

Fold into butter, flour mixture and bake in 9x13 pan at 350 degrees until cake tester comes out clean. (Dry spaghetti makes a great tester.) Cool and frost with brown sugar icing.
