7 c. sifted flour 1 lb. butter 1/2 c. Crisco 4 eggs 1 c. milk 2 pkg. dry yeast or 2/3 lg. 1 tsp. vanilla Mix flour, butter, Crisco like pie crust. Set aside. Scald milk and cool to warm and add yeast. Add beaten eggs and vanilla. Add to flour and mix. Dough will be soft. Divide into 4 parts and refrigerate overnight. FILLING: 2 lbs. grated walnuts 1 1/2 c. sugar Enough milk to make a stiff paste Roll dough out on sugared board 1/3 to 1/2 of each piece at a time. Cut into squares. Put on filling and roll corner to corner, tucking ends in. Put on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly brown. Yields 10 dozen. |
