CHERRY BARS
 

1 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3 c. flour
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix shortening and sugar together; add eggs, vanilla, and beat well. Add dry ingredients and mix.

Put flour on hands and pat about 2/3 of batter in a large greased jelly roll pan. Spread over this 1 can of cherry pie mix. (Place cherries out evenly and spread to edge of crust.)

Drop remaining dough by small teaspoonfuls over the cherries. (Don't spread dough.) Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes. Check before 45 minutes. While warm, drizzle with a powdered sugar frosting.

POWDERED SUGAR FROSTING:

2 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. butter
Enough milk to make icing runny

This bar recipe freezes well.
