Blend shortening, sugar and eggs. Stir in combined dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Add 1 cup chopped nuts, chopped dates or seedless raisins or add 1 6-ounce package of semi-sweet chocolate pieces. Drop batter from teaspoon onto baking sheet rubbed with shortening and bake at 375 F for 10 to 12 minutes.
For spice drop cookies: add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1/2 teaspoon ginger.
