APPLESAUCE CAKE
 

2 c. sugar
1 c. butter or vegetable shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs
2 c. applesauce
2 level tsp. soda
4 c. cake flour, sifted
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 jar peach or pineapple preserves
1 lb. box raisins
1/2 lb. walnuts, black or English

Cream butter and sugar; add vanilla, then add eggs, beating in one at a time. Add soda to applesauce, then add the spices to the flour. Add applesauce and flour alternately to the batter, then add preserves. Lastly add raisins and nuts to the mixture. Pour in a 10 inch lined cake mold and bake at 275 degrees for approximately 2 hours or until a straw inserted comes out clean.
