APPLE BUTTER LAYER CAKE
 

3 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. ground cloves
3/4 c. butter, softened
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. Musselman's apple butter

Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon and ground cloves. Beat butter and sugar together until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time.

Combine buttermilk and apple butter. Add alternately with flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Pour into two greased 9 inch round pans and bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool on cake rack. Frost with Creamy Vanilla Frosting.

CREAMY VANILLA FROSTING:

1/2 c. softened butter
1/4 c. evaporated milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. powdered sugar (4 c.)

In a small mixing bowl combine all ingredients. Mix until frosting is smooth and shiny. If consistency is too thick, add a few drops of evaporated milk. Frost cooled Apple Butter Layer Cake.
