3 c. all purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 3/4 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. nutmeg 3/4 tsp. cinnamon 3/4 tsp. ground cloves 3/4 c. butter, softened 1 1/4 c. sugar 3 eggs 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 1/2 c. apple butter Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ground cloves. Beat butter and sugar together until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Combine buttermilk and apple butter. Add alternately with the flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Pour into 2 greased 9 inch round pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool thoroughly on cake rack. Frost cooled cake with Creamy Vanilla Frosting. CREAMY VANILLA FROSTING: In small mixing bowl combine 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/4 cup evaporated milk, 2 teaspoons vanilla, and 1 pound powdered sugar (4 cups). Mix until frosting is smooth and shiny. If consistency is too thick, add a few drops of evaporated milk. Frost cooled Apple Butter Layer Cake. |
