SQUASH-APPLE CASSEROLE
 

2 1/2 c. fresh squash or pumpkin, cut in 1" chunks
1 1/2 c. cooking apples, cut in 1 1/2" slices
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. walnuts, pecans or chestnuts, coarsely chopped

Melt 3 tablespoons butter; combine with brown sugar, cinnamon and nuts. Place a layer of squash in a 2 quart casserole; drizzle with sugar mixture. Follow with a layer of apples; drizzle with sugar mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used. Dot with remaining tablespoon of butter. Cover casserole and bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. Makes 4 servings.
