We use this recipe every year for Thanksgiving dinner, without the sugar. (The corn and muffin mix are sweet enough for us.) I double it for a group of about 14 folks. There is *never* even a spoonful left at the end of the evening!

I also leave out the sugar and add a small can of diced green chiles - it adds a really nice flavor and everyone loves it!

I agree, I never used the sugar and its flavor and taste is great. leave out the sugar and you'll enjoy it.
This dish goes well for the kids too, at first they dont seems to want it, but after the first bite they want more and will ask who made it. enjoy and have fun with it.

I have fixed it both ways for my family, and we prefer the recipe that includes the sugar. However, it is all a matter of preference. I suggest trying it with 1/8 cup sugar or even a little less.

I have made this 2 ways one way was the full fat version with the butter and regular sour cream...The next time I made it with fat free sour cream and I can't believe it's not butter spray to make it more figure friendly I loved it both ways. There didn't seem to be much difference in the taste at all... I too left out the sugar in both.

I absolutely loved this recipe and we used the sugar and it was really good! I will make this my new addition to not only our holiday meals but as a part to the regular meals too.

I made 2 of these for lunch at the annual church meeting. I left out the sugar and they were still plenty sweet. I cut up 3 jalapeno peppers and put them in one for the people who like HOT!!! Both were completely gone. Everyone loved them and asked for the recipe.

Y'all are being silly about the sugar. I leave it out only if I am using fresh white corn. This is not a diet dish!

I made this for thanksgiving, and my husband requested it for christmas as well. I leave the sugar out, it tastes wonderful.

Leave out the sugar, but use a can of mexican corn instead of regular. It adds color to the dish.

Love this- we have made it for years (also without the added sugar.) Only difference is I use 1/3 cup canola oil instead of butter or margarine- a little less and better-for-you fat.

I don't add the sugar but I do add maple syrup. No measuring....just squirt some in. I have also made it with onions and japalenos without the syrup.

Just made this for Cristmas dinner. No sugar. Added third cup chipped jalepenos, one tablespoon of chili flakes and it was awesome. The only problem they left me no leftovers. Hint make an extra one for yourself! Thanks for the recipe.

We love this recipe (no sugar, not because of calories but because it is just right without). I fry a pound of crumbled breakfast sausage and add it. A one dish meal.

Very, very delicious. Made it with the sugar but next time I will try without. I may have to try to use variations to make it Weight Watcher friendly. Had to make a double batch in a casserole pan and it fed 11 adults no problem.

Try adding small pieces of left over ham, delicious.

I make this casserole, but I drain the whole kernel corn,and omit the sugar, add one cup shredded cheddar cheese, and only one egg. I'm thinking of adding diced onion.
