1 lb. green split peas 2 qts. water 1 celery, chopped 1 lg. onion, chopped 2 carrots, chopped 1 tsp. salt 1 clove garlic, chopped and minced finely 1 ham hock Pick peas and rinse. Put in pot with water with ham hock, chopped celery, chopped onions and carrots, bay leaf, salt and pepper and garlic. Bring to boil, then reduce heat, simmer and cover for 2 hours. Make sure you stir occasionally. Take ham hock out and cool. Cut meat off bone and return to soup, add a little more water if soup becomes thick. |
