WILTED LETTUCE
 

1/2 gallon lettuce, a little salt, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons vinegar; pour over lettuce and toss. Fry a little bacon; beat 1 egg and add 1 cup light cream or milk; cook in the bacon grease, then pour over lettuce and toss again. Add chopped onions or radishes if desired.

NOTE: This is Grandma Lederer's recipe for wilted lettuce, just as she wrote it, and using the large quantity required to feed her family of six children.
