Mix together until crumbly: 1 1/4 c. flour 1 c. brown sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/3 c. shortening Measure 1/4 cup crumbs and set aside. To remaining crumbs, add and mix well: 1 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. baking soda 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg Add and mix well: 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 beaten egg Pour batter into a greased and floured 8 inch square or round pan. Top with reserved crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. |
