4 or 5 Stayman Winesap apples, sliced thinly 1/2 c. granulated sugar 2 tbsp. flour 1 tbsp. lemon juice Pinch of salt 1/4 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. allspice 2 tbsp. melted butter Hot water pastry Combine dry ingredients. Stir into the apples. Add lemon juice and then the melted butter. Turn into a 9-inch, unbaked, pie shell. Cover with topping. TOPPING: 1/2 c. plain flour 1/2 c. brown sugar 4 to 5 tbsp. butter Mix topping ingredients together until crumbly. Sprinkle over pie. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until top is browned. |
