SWEET AND SPICY ALMOND GREEN BEANS
 

1 lb. green beans, cut into lengthwise strips
1/2 c. chopped natural almonds
1 tsp. vegetable oil
2 tbsp. butter
1 clove garlic finely chopped
1 tbsp. firmly packed brown sugar
2 to 3 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp. salt

Plunge green beans into salted boiling water. Cook until just tender about 3 to 4 minutes. Drain and rinse in cold water. Saute almonds in oil until crisp. Add butter to the pan and add beans. Stir to coat and heat through. Stir in garlic, sugar, lemon juice, red pepper flakes and salt. Cook stirring constantly until sugar dissolves and beans are glazed, about 30 seconds. 4 to 6 servings.
