CARNE GUISADA
 

2 lbs. tender beef
2 tbsp. vegetable shortening
2 tbsp. flour
2 c. water
1 c. tomato juice or whole tomatoes
1/4 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. cracked black pepper
1 tsp. chili powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 bell pepper, chopped
1 sm. onion, chopped

Melt shortening in frying pan. Add meat and start to fry. When meat juices begin to evaporate and meat begins frying, add flour. Cook and stir until flour is brown.

Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes. Serve on flour tortillas or over rice.
