ITALIAN WEDDING COOKIES
 

5 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
4 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. melted Crisco
1/4 c. softened butter
3/4 c. milk
2 tsp. anise flavoring

Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Set aside. Beat eggs and sugar. Add Crisco, butter, milk and anise flavoring. Work in dry ingredients. Roll dough 1/2 inch thick. Cut cookies with different cookie cutter shapes. Arrange on lightly greased and floured cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees about 10 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Do not over bake. Cool and frost.

FROSTING:

3 tbsp. melted butter
3 c. powdered sugar, sifted
3 tbsp. light cream or half & half
2 tsp. anise flavoring

Mix ingredients well. dip top of cookies to cover. Put on rack. Quickly decorate with colored sprinkles. Dry and keep in tin can or cookies may harden. They freeze well. Food coloring can be added to the frosting.
