CARAMEL DELUXE SQUARES
 

1 c. and 2 tbsp. flour
1/2 c. butter
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
24 Kraft caramels
2 tbsp. cream
1/2 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. oatmeal
1/2 pkg. chocolate chips

Combine (like pastry) 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup butter, salt, soda, sugar and oatmeal. Press all but 1 cup of mixture into 9x9 inch square pan, bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

While crust is baking, melt caramels with cream in double boiler; blend in 2 tablespoons flour. Spread caramel mixture over baked crust, spread chocolate chips over this and top with remaining crumb mixture. Bake an additional 12 minutes at 350 degrees. This recipe also works when doubled and cooked in 13x9 pan.
