APPLE PAN DOWDY
 

4 c. sliced, peeled apples (tart)
1/3 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 c. water
3 tbsp. melted butter
1/2 c. molasses

Place apples in deep baking dish. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix water, molasses and butter. Pour over apples. Cover with shortcake dough, bake at 375 degrees for 30-35 minutes. To serve, cut the dough into the apples. Serve with cream, or whip topping.

SHORTCAKE DOUGH:

2 c. flour
2 tbsp. sugar
3 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 egg
1/2 c. milk

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt together. Cut butter into dry ingredients. Put egg into measuring cup and beat, fill cup with milk to measure 2/3 cup total with egg. Mix. Pour over dry ingredients. Blend to just moist. Knead 6-8 turns. Roll to 1/2 inch thick, cover apples.
