Add and beat ingredients in order listed. Drop by rounded spoonful onto pizzelle maker. Close lid and clip handles together. Allow to cook until steaming stops. Remove with fork to a dish towel. Store in air-tight container. Dust with powdered sugar before serving, if desired.
Variations:
Lemon Pizzelle: Omit vanilla and anise. Add 2 teaspoons lemon extract and 1 tablespoon grated lemon peel to basic recipe.
Not Pizzelle: Add 1 1/2 cups very finely chopped or ground nuts to basic recipe.
