This is extra, extra good! 2 oz. chocolate, finely cut 1 1/2 c. sugar 7 tbsp. milk 2 tbsp. shortening (Spry is best) 2 tbsp. butter 1 tbsp. corn syrup 1/4 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla Place all except vanilla in saucepan and bring SLOWLY to FULL rolling boil. Stir constantly, boiling 1 MINUTE, except on a rainy or humid day, boil 1 1/2 minutes. Cool to lukewarm, add vanilla and beat until thickens to spread. If it becomes too thick, add a little cream and soften over hot water. Frosts two 8-inch layers or the top and sides of an 8 x 12 x 2 cake. If nuts desired, add 1/2 cup just before spreading frosting onto cake. |
