TURTLES
 

2 c. walnut halves
36 caramels
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. chocolate chips
1 1/2 tsp. shortening

Arrange walnuts on waxed paper. Heat caramels and butter in top of double boiler. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Drop into center of each walnut half making sure all nuts are covered. Cool.
