Grease and lightly dust with flour (as you would a cake pan) 2 stainless steel mixing bowls; 1 bowl should be smaller than the other (we use 5 3/4 inch diameter and 7 3/4 inch diameter).
Prepare cake mix according to instructions on box; pour into prepared mixing bowls in equal depths.
Bake following instructions given on box (usually about 45 to 60 minutes . (Check for doneness using a wooden toothpick - when tminutes othpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean, cake is done.)
Run a knife around edge of bowls to free cakes and invert onto a wire cooling rack.
When cooled, cut in half; this will be the paws. Set the cat up on a platter. Frost with chocolate frosting.
The kids can make a tail and ears out of cardboard; coloring in with crayons. The face is out of decorator frosting. The whiskers are pipe cleaners. Eyes, nose are candies.
This cake has become a Halloween tradition at our house; makes a great centerpiece for Halloween Party. Children love it!
