SOUR CHERRY CAKE
 

1 1/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. sour milk
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. sour cherries
1/2 c. softened butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon

Grease two 8 inch pans and dust with flour. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. In a separate bowl sift flour, soda, salt and cinnamon. Add butter mixture to flour mixture, alternately with milk, beating after each addition. Fold in cherries. Bake in 350 degree oven for about 40 minutes.

SOUR CHERRY FROSTING:

1 tbsp. softened butter
2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
Cherry juice
1 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix above ingredients with enough cherry juice until spreadable consistency is obtained. To make cherry juice when using fresh sour cherries, cook a small amount of cherries in a little water and sugar to form a syrup. Strain.
