2 c. plain flour 2 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 2 sticks butter 1 c. water 3 tbsp. cocoa (heaping) 2 eggs 1 tsp. soda 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla Sift flour; measure and resift with sugar and salt, set aside. In saucepan put butter, water and cocoa; bring to a boil. Pour over flour mixture and mix well. Mix eggs in bowl with soda, buttermilk and vanilla. Add to other mixture. Bake in greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Frost with Chocolate Fudge Frosting. CHOCOLATE FUDGE FROSTING FOR SHEET CAKE: 1 stick butter 6 to 8 tbsp. milk 3 tbsp. cocoa 1 box confectioners' sugar 1 c. chopped pecans 1 tsp. vanilla Mix butter, cocoa and milk in saucepan. Heat over low heat; do not boil. Remove from heat; add sugar, nuts and vanilla. Mix well with mixer and pour on while cake and icing are hot. Good and moist. |
