1/3 c. butter
2/3 c. granulated sugar
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. pecans
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. light brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. mace
1 1/4 c. canned apple slices, drained and chopped
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
Confectioner sugar frosting
Cream 1/3 cup butter and mix with brown sugar and 2/3 cup granulated sugar until well blended. Add egg and beat well. Sift flour with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt and mace. Add sifted ingredients alternately with milk to creamed mixture, beating until smooth. Fold in apples. Pour into 2 (8 inch) layer-cake pans lined on the bottom with waxed paper.
Mix pecans and melted butter, sprinkle on batter in one pan. Mix 3 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, sprinkle on pecans. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 minutes. Cool. Spread frosting on plain layer and top with nut-topped cake layer. Spread sides of cake with the remaining frosting.
