TURTLE CAKE
 

1 box 2 layer German chocolate cake mix
1 (14 oz.) bag caramels
3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 c. pecans, chopped
1 c. mini chocolate chips
Chocolate frosting (optional)

In a saucepan, over low heat, melt the caramels with butter and milk. Mix the cake according to the package direction. Pour 1/2 of batter into a greased 9x13 baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and top with chocolate chips and nuts. Gently pour the caramel mixture over this then very gently pour the rest of the batter on top. Bake for 20 minutes longer. Remove from the oven and allow to cool in the dish. Frost if desired.
