GINGERBREAD
 

2 c. all-purpose flour
2/3 c. sugar
1 pinch salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. black pepper

Make a well in the center.

1/2 c. oil
3/4 c. molasses
1 egg
1/2 c. sour milk

(Or sweet milk with 1 teaspoon lemon juice or vinegar added).

Stir until mixed and smooth. Then stir in 1/3 cup hot water. Pour mixture into well greased and floured 9 inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. Cool in pan or on rack.

Lemon sauce
Hot vanilla pudding
Cold applesauce
Vanilla ice cream
Whipped cream

Recipe may be doubled, and baked in a 9 x 13 inch pan. Happy Eating!
